Quantitative OEF Determination by Separate T2 and T2* Mapping

چکیده
measurement of oxygenation is of great interest, because tumor oxygenation is an indicator of aggressiveness and affinity to metastazation [1]. Moreover, the chance of success of a radiation therapy or chemo therapy depends on the oxygen partial pressure of the tumorous tissue [2]. That is the reason why hypoxia is a large obstacle to tumor therapy [3]. In this study, a model of static dephasing magnetization [4] can be used to measure the oxygen extraction fraction (OEF) by using a gradient echo sampled spin echo (GESSE) sequence. This model has already been tested with promising results [5,6]. A disadvantage of this technique is, that the reversible relaxation rate R2’, the irreversible relaxation rate R2 and the deoxygenated blood volume λ are determined simultaneously with one fit. This results in an uncertainty of the fitted parameters. Here, the parameters R2 and R2* are determined independently by separate measurements, resulting in much more stable fit parameters. QUantitative Imaging of eXtraction of oxygen and TIssue
While oxygen extraction fraction (OEF) and cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen (CMRO2) are fundamental parameters of brain health and function, a robust MRI-based mapping of OEF and CMRO2 amenable to functional MRI (fMRI) has not been established. To address this issue, a novel method called QUantitative Imaging of eXtraction of Oxygen and TIssue Consumption, or QUIXOTIC, is introduced. The key i...
متن کاملT2’-Imaging to Assess Cerebral Oxygen Extraction Fraction in Carotid Occlusive Disease: Influence of Cerebral Autoregulation and Cerebral Blood Volume
PURPOSE Quantitative T2'-mapping detects regional changes of the relation of oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin (Hb) by using their different magnetic properties in gradient echo imaging and might therefore be a surrogate marker of increased oxygen extraction fraction (OEF) in cerebral hypoperfusion. Since elevations of cerebral blood volume (CBV) with consecutive accumulation of Hb might a...

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES To assess the feasibility of quantitative T2* mapping at 3.0 T for prostate cancer detection and to investigate the use of T2* values to characterize tumor aggressiveness, with whole-mount step-section pathologic analysis as the reference standard. MATERIALS AND METHODS Prostate multiecho T2* was performed in 55 consecutive patients with prostate cancer using a multis...
متن کاملT2 Preparation Methods for the Quantification of Myocardial Oxygenation at Rest and During Hyperemia
Purpose We have recently developed a quantification MRI model to calculate the hyperemic myocardial oxygen extraction fraction (OEF) with the effect of myocardial blood-oxygen-level-dependence (BOLD) [1]. However, imaging acquisition had relied on the dark-blood turbo-spin-echo (DBTSE) sequence to acquire myocardial T2, which is sensitive to cardiac motion and arrhythmias. In addition, multiple...
متن کاملValidation of T1 and T2 algorithms for quantitative MRI: performance by a vendor-independent software
BACKGROUND Determination of the relaxation time constants T1 and T2 with quantitative magnetic resonance imaging is increasingly used for both research and clinical practice. Recently, groups have been formed within the Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance to address issues with relaxometry. However, so far they have avoided specific recommendations on methodology due to lack of consens...
